A List of Virtual Reality Worlds

Please Note This Is A Copy of A Site I Found : The Author Put No Copyright notice nor Restrictions as to use. And, Like Any Good Site, It Took Me 20 Seconds To Copy It, Had No Difficilt html, Its Bog Standard!. I Made No Changes Except To Alter The Size Of The Video Clips. Again, original Work Should Not Be Altered. If You Wish To Comment Then Leave A Comment. Like So many Of Us, We Share. Just Name Your Source!

A Text File of The HTML of This Post is Here

It Was Constructed by :

The Original Is Here. This is NOT my work. I Claim No Credit. ArianeB Is Great

I try to keep up with the latest in 3D virtual worlds, but
new stuff keeps popping up all the time, so no doubt I will miss stuff. I’m
posting a page to keep track of it all.

Just
a definition. A 3D Virtual World contains the following traits: 1. Its a
Massively Multiplayer Online Game. 2. It renders in 3D (ruling out the literally
hundreds of 2D flash virtual worlds like Club Penguin and Gaia Online).
3. It allows for multiple types of activities, primarily non-competitive social
ones. (ruling out the dozens of MMORPG games as well as single activity games
like the golf MMOG Albatross 18).

3D
Virtual Worlds should also feature: Customizable avatars, customizable 3D
residences, user created clothing, user created scriptable objects,
Text/Speech/Gesture communication, Internet integration, multiplayer game
launching capabilities. I covered this in more detail in “What
is a Metaverse?

Note: Just
because it is listed here does not mean I endorse it. I’m trying to make a list
as complete as possible. There are some old and lame games on the list. There
are also some new ones with potential, but not ready for prime time yet. There
are also some special interest worlds that should have appeal for some. Do a
little research before you actually join any of these games.

The
List:

3D “Outside the Box” Exploring:

As
a footnote, I want to mention a few sites that are almost 3D Virtual Worlds but
are a little bit outside of the box. These websites are multiplayer and have 3D
elements, but communications and navigation are a bit non-traditional.

3B Rooms

Status:
Open since 2007

Notes: Build 3D rooms with web pages as walls, click on walls to go to website.
It also has chat capabilities. Beyond that it does not do anything else, hence I
cannot call it a true 3D Virtual World.

Website: http://3b.net/

Entropia
Universe

Status: Open since 2003

Notes: For all intents and purposes, this is an MMORPG, but it has enough 3D
Virtual World elements that it is often mistaken as such. Its free to start, but
progress in the game requires real world money.

Website: http://www.entropiauniverse.com/

EveryScape

via photographs. Includes interiors of buildings as well. You can tag locations
with notes or buy advertising space at popular locations.

Exit
Reality

Notes: Takes a standard 2D social network profile page, and converts it to a 3D
space. Pictures turn into wall hanging pictures, embedded music turns into
jukeboxes, embedded videos turn into TVs, and online friends turn into people
you can chat with.

Notes: The Forbidden City: Beyond Space and Time is the world’s first online
virtual world dedicated to a country’s cultural heritage. This is presented as a
three-dimensional replica of the square-kilometer palace grounds called The
Virtual Forbidden City. The project partners’ goal was to create an experience
that is as authentic as possible by being true to important Chinese principles
of balance and harmony.

Review: China in 3D

Freaky Creatures

complicated creature design tools and some extra building features that some 3D
Virtual World enthusiasts might enjoy.

Arcadia, Natural Stone Arches and Baobabs

Sorry its been so long, really up to my eyes in stuff. Anyway:

  • New Outpost
  • New City
  • New Build
  • New Welcome Area
  • AND A R C A D I A

So. I made a vid, Just a taste..more to come but I think The Important Bit is Arcadia, so I’ll concentrate on that…..

Entrance area is lovely, super graphics and in the Blue Mars tradion, Elegantly Beautiful in a Tasteful Way. Love the spinning welcome with the two moons (casting One Shadow >>> Grid Rock!). Cool, Watch the video Got to go to http://Home.Luggala.org Back tonight……

.But Why Baobabs? Well apart from being the biggest species of tree in the world, have no time rings so they are ageless and me and Baobabs go way back. I was travelling through the Rift Valley (1972) when I saw them. Wow! I called ‘em potatoe trees cause they were short and stumpy. The White Hunter who I had hitched a lift with for the past two days (Ita Africa, big place) turned down the Strauss Waltz playing on his stereo. He said “No, Philip, they are upside down trees” OMG, after that every Baobab I looked at was upside down. God had made them as ordinary trees then he said lets have a laugh so he picked them up turned them upside down and stuck them back into the ground. They look upside down i.e. The Roots are where the branches should be. You look at their giant stubby bodies and they’ve got Giant Stubby Branches, like roots! AND, they often don’t have any leaves, they don’t seem to have much time for leaves. I did see one with a few leaves down on the plain and it was billed as the biggest in the world in Tsavo National Park where I saw Pink Elephants, but you could see it wasn’t really into leaves. two years later up in the himalayas with the Tibetans (hahahaha..Name Dropping..lol)My Parisian friend was reading Le Petit Prince we only had a french copy. She would read it in french and translate it into Parisian English. Baobabs > The Little Prince’s raison d’etre. I’ll get a copy..So Baobabs. When I was in USA 15 years later I came across Stone Arches. I saw the again in Avatar. I saw them again last night in Arcadia.
